Post Time for some new hardware
Right - my old beast (currently hiding under my desk at work) is due for a refit. I am putting the CPU, mobo and GPU out to pasture, so need to get some replacement bits.
I already have a case, HDD's and PSU, and after some digging around I came up with this...

CPU - Intel E8500
RAM - 2 X 2Gb DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2 CAS5 (something not too pricey, as I'm trying to keep cost down)
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3
GPU - ati 4870
some random optical drive - this is not really all that important.

Just throwing this out there, and seeing what people think. Not that the ACS Forums are a hive of constant activity. Shit, I'll probably be 50 before I get a reply :D

Comments appreciated, thanks.

looks good.

my 1 suggestion would be to try and keep mobo & gpu make the same if you can, like asus/asus or whatever.

what power is your PSU, keeping in mind that the new gcards need a good whack of power.

Wow, holy shit - there *IS* someone else who reads these forums apart from me :D Well, enough of that..

The GP hardware forums suggest this mobo to go with the 4870 - Asustek P5Q PRO P45. I'll do some reading and see whats cool/uncool about that.

As for PSU, I have a 750w Thermaltake - doing some googling has revealed the 4870 sucks 203.7w idle, and 278.6 under load, so the TT should piss in.

EDIT - the site I got those consumption figures from was only doing a 3DMax pixel shader test - so I guess *actual* gameplay will draw heaps more.
